The article opens with a short piece of fiction, in which Pierre D’Alton, an escape artist and member of La Société de Legerdemain is interviewed to determine if he will be allowed to know the true nature of the organization. In the interview it is revealed that his Uncle Nicolas had disappeared, leaving behind a book called Beyonde the Veil, which spurred Pierre to join the group to find out more. After the opening fiction, the article details the history, methods, activities, and headquarters (Club l’Artiste in Port-a-Lucine). An escape artist named Joseph Cardona is also mentioned. Some of the contents of the group's Hidden Library include a single volume of the Madrigorian, some of the works of Abelhous Nicholsi, and a series of documents the Tapestry of Dark Souls, written by Brother Dominic. They once had a full collection of Dr. Van Richten's works, but the Guide to Fiends was recently lost, possibly in connection with a member named Serge Farradie who also disappeared. Their copy of the Guide to Werebeasts was delivered to them by Madame Eva a year before Van Richten started writing it.
