La Infestación

La Infestación is an Erinyes currently residing in the Wartorn Cluster. She is discussed at length in the Wartorn Gazetteer Volume II: Conquista.

Origins

La Infestación (true name unknown) is an Erinyes from Baator, who served as a lieutenant and sometimes a concubine to an unnamed master. Irked by the fact that the misogynistic culture of the Nine Hells saw her passed over for advancement again and again, she conspired to charge her master for his dereliction of duty, only for her supposed allies to betray her. Barely able to escape pursuit, the fiend wandered the wastelands of the Nine Hells in a state of mental turmoil and failed to notice the signs of Transposition on her own flesh until it was too late.

In the Dread Realms

The she-devil appeared in Vechor in the year 625 BC. The land's chaotic nature made her believe she was in the Abyss. She soon crossed over into Darkon, where she met the tanar'ri known as the Red Haunt. To her surprise, the other Fiend appeared to be uninterested in fighting, and was actually helpful in explaining a great deal about the Dread Realms, including fiendish Power Rituals.

In spite of the demon's helpfulness, la Infestación considered her to be unnerving company and struck out on her own. In the following decades she would observe and analyze the rule of various Darklords, and hire herself out to evildoers as a mercenary. She developed considerable respect for Lord Soth, for his rigid adherence to the letter of the Oath and the Measure. To her discomfort, the Red Haunt would 'drop in on her' from time to time for peaceful discussion. The two of them eventually started debating as to whether the greatest power of Evil lay in tyranny as embodied in law, or anarchy as brought about by chaos.

Conquista

While the Red Haunt was content to keep debating the issue and come to a conclusion through discussion and logic, la Infestación had become agitated and wanted to force a conclusion through observational evidence.

To this end, the two fiends started a domain-spanning experiment in Conquista in 711 BC.

Together, they installed a twisted mockery of democracy in the land (which led the Dark Powers to install the Dread Election). The Fiends agreed that la Infestación would be positioned near the seat of power, free to subtly influence whoever was elected as leader and thus promote the absolute order of tyranny. The Red Haunt promised to 'sow one seed of anarchy', but to otherwise not directly influence the politics of the domain.

To la Infestación's confusion, Conquista heaves closer to civil war every year, in spite of her efforts to bring an absolute top-down hierarchy and order to the land. She has joined the clergy of Taiia and Conquista's officía del recuerdo in an effort to gain greater insight and influence, but has been unable to find the 'seed of anarchy' that is slowly tearing the nation apart.

Unfortunately for her, la Infestación does not - and perhaps can not - understand that the tyranny she encourages is what is causing tensions to rise. She herself is the 'seed of anarchy', and the Red Haunt has kept her word.

Current Sketch

La Infestación lurks in Conquista's northern cities, spending most of her time in Hughsrest. She has a junior rank in los Viejos Sagrados and la officía del recuerdo, which she uses to gather information and to search for the Red Haunt's seed of anarchy. She influences - but does not normally dominate - the domain's elected presidents of the nation through her phylactery; a splendid ring which is known as the regalia of the president. The phylactery also holds the souls of several people who have drawn the she-devil's wrath. When not engaged with the experiment on Conquista, la Infestación spends much time with the study of politics.
