Commonly known as Captain Teach, Léon Mathurine[1] is an infamous pirate that sails the Nocturnal Sea and sometimes visits Rutledge. He not only attacks merchant ships but also small communities and is even said to have attacked Egertus once, setting fire to a local temple of the Lawgiver. Captain Teach is known to be ruthless, only sparing a single person to tell others of his deeds. Theatrics is key to his strategy as a raider, to instill fear in the hearts of sailors is to render them less resistant. However, he has some degree of honor, treating women and noncombatants that he takes prisoner with grace and deposited at the port next encountered.

History

Born in Souragne in 719 BC, Léon was the child of a love affair between a servant and a noble. Though not openly acknowledged nor raised by his father, Leon did enjoy regular visits and approval. Later, Léon's father provided finances for Léon's first ship, the Coeur d'Erlande. He worked as a mostly honest trader between the Souragne and the Core until his business partner, Red Rolf, swindled him of all he was worth.

Left mounted with debt, Léon came to work on another ship but soon led a mutiny and took over. Léon adopted the alias of Captain Teach and persuaded the other sailors to become pirates. They launched raids upon Rolf's ships. However, Rolf changed his operations such that Teach was no longer truly a threat. Unable to continue his revenge, Captain Teach began raiding any merchant vessels he encountered.
