Irsyla

A minor character from the novel Tower of Doom, Irsyla was the midwife at birth of Baron Caidin and Wort. She is the grandmother of Lillen and lived in Nartok.

History

Irsyla worked as a midwife in Nartok in the 7th century BC in Nartok. On the night of Wort and Caidin's birth, tthe Old Baron's guards took her from her home and brought her to help with the births of the two children by different mothers. Because Caidin was the bastard but Wort was deformed, the Old Baron switched records of their birth mothers and then poisoned both his wife and his mistress to cover up the secret. He ordered his knights to kill Irylsa, and they tossed her over the edge of a crevice and left her for dead. But she survived and went to live with her sister elsewhere in Darkon. Following the Old Baron's death years later, Irysla returned to Nartok again.

In the twilight of her life, Irysla's health began to fail simply because of her advanced age. Not understanding it was simply a matter of old age, Lillen and her husband, Elgar enlisted the help of Mika in treating Irysla's presumed disease. It was fortuitous, for Irysla told Mika of the Old Baron's secrets.
