Gundar River

Originally flowing through the domain of Gundarak before it was absorbed by neighboring lands, the Gundar River is a major tributary of the Musarde River. It flows from Forlorn downriver through the Gorge of Passing Sorrow into Barovia past the western edge of the Bloodfang Hills and through the souther Balinok Mountains into Invidia. In Invidia, it joins with the Nharov River and ultimately terminates in the Musarde.[1]

Use

Heavier watercraft are unable to navigate the Gundar River, though it can be piloted by less heavy craft.[1] Within Invidia, several smaller communities dot the river's sides. Many Invidians believe their land is viewed at its best when seen from a river boat In addition, the Invidian economy, at least in certain places, is dependent upon the commercial traffic that flows through its rivers, including the Gundar, from Barovia to the western Core. However, Malocchio Aderre recently upped tariffs on trade goods traveling through Invidia, causing some merchants to consider trade routes that bypass Invidia entirely.[2]

River Source

Ravenloft products give differing accounts of what is the ultimate water source for the Gundar River. The Red Box set stipulates that Barovia is the ultimate source of river[3], whereas Gazetteer I says that Forlorn lies upriver through the Gorge of Passing Sorrow.[4] Most maps suggest that the river ultimately derives the Lake of Red Tears in Forlorn.
