Fotari is a corrupted archdruid and the darklord of the Bakumora, a realm of jungles and marshes originally from the land of Chult on Faerun.[1] Fotari believes that the mass sacrifice of souls to Ifalakuntho, a corrupted aspect of Fotari's deity Ubtao, he can bring about the freedom of his land from the Mists. However, in reality, Fotari's evil actions are the cause of the Bakumora's downward slide- it was his corruption of the nature spirits that cause it to become a Shadowfell domain in the first place.[2] Formerly the spiritual leader of Kayebo Village, Fotari now leads a cult in the Temple of Omi Keyoka.[3] Fotari is able to sense the presence of intruders approaching the temple and may will the individual leaves strewn about its exterior into a variety of (usually monstrous) shapes.[4]

History

The events eventually leading to Fotari's corruption began outside of the Bakumora. An external magical accident in a nearby land to the south caused a backlash warping the magical conditions of the surrounding region including the Bakumoro.[5] Freak storms struck the land, and the spirits of the dead did not rest quietly. Some time ago, Fotari took a party of his fellow villagers to investigate the accident.[6]

Whatever he experienced while away from the village, Fotari returned to it a changed man[6], warped and corrupted by his own power.[5] Upon his return, Fotari murdered the Kayebo clan leader along with many of the other townspeople who tried to defend him. Fotari then abandoned the village and never came back. Soon after, the Mists engulfed the Bakumoro, and almost Fotari's betrayal nobody can leave the Bakumoro.[6]

More recently, conflict has interrupted the long-standing truce between Kayebo Village and the lizardfolk tribes residing nearby. As previously mentioned, the dracotaurs accuse the humans of being responsible for the Mists and magical corruption of the land. Subsequently, a raid on Kayebo Village racked up many casualties for the village, and Onyeka Kayebo, the new village leader, was poisoned. Kayebo Village is still reeling from the attack.[6]

Despite the dracotaur's accusations against all the humans, the defeat of Fotari[7] and of Ufalakuntho.[5] can the Bakumoro be saved.
