The Forfarian Civil War (537 BC-543 BC[1] or 547 BC[2]) began when Tristen ApBlanc (under the guise of Marc) challenged the ApFittles for rule over Forfar. In the preceding years, he had exploited the ApFittles' hospitality by fortifying the Lord's Tower and gather a cadre of mercenaries while the ApFittles were distracted fighting against various monsters that seemed to be flooding the land.[1]

The war raged on through the late 1920s of the Forfarian Calendar and perhaps a bit beyond. Upsets in the ApFittle Clan started becoming noticable in 542 BC with the death of Lord Patrick ApFittle. His successor was Andrew ApFittle.[3] In 543 BC, Tristen achieved a major victory over the ApFittles by razing ApFittle Hall to the ground and ordering mass execution of no less than 27 ApFittles. This act of evil ushered in a chaotic epoch of strike and chaos with Tristen's tyrannical influence falling upon more and more the land. This era was called the Time of Terrors, and it caused many people of Birnam and around to abandon Forfar altogether.[4] In 546 BC, the people of Birnam drafted papers of surrender against Tristen's forces.[3] In 547 BC, Tristen achieved victory over the last of ApFittle's forces.[2]

Despite his excesses and despite the mystical warnings of the land, Tristen refused to stop in the pogrom of extermination against the ApFittles. At the climax of the cruelty, Tristen's depredations brought about the Year of Woe in 547 BC. Tristen saw whom he thought was the last ApFittle killed with the Execution of Andrew ApFittle. Forfar was drawn into the Demiplane of Dread and became Forlorn as a result.[5][6]
