The ebony clock is a dread and ancient artifact that lies at the center of all the supernatural evil afflicting Prospero Hall. Resembling a massive and sinister grandfather clock[1], the ebony clock is powered by the Red Death through twisting the curse laid upon Prince Prospero by Dracula. The ebony clock tolls very irregularly, eleven times over the past 400 years. During each time, all the people inside Prospero Hall have been afflicted by the red death plague. Guests died horribly whereas Prospero and his servants always live.[2]

Though but a an object, the evil invested within the ebony clock has made it almost fully self-aware. it is infested with the full power of a Lord rank servant of the Red Death. As such, it has several defense mechanisms, ranging from afflicting its attackers with disease to animating constructss. In addition, it is protected by many traps.[1] The ebony clock is surprisingly durable, having survived an attempt to burn it down that ultimately caused Prospero to burn down the original Hall of Prospero.[3]
