Nothics are evil, cyclopean aberrations with special powers that derive from their large, ominous eyes. A nothic can magically discern facts about creatures around it. Although prone to observation and the acquisition of information rather than violence, a nothic pushed to combat can uses its gaze to rot its foes alive^[1].

An evil curse left by Vecna afflicts some wizards who devote themselves too much to the gathering of secrets. The obsession for knowledge is not helped by a transformation into a nothic, and they entirely forget their former identities^[1].

History

A small group of wizard in Barovia devolved into nothics in their obsessed quest for forbidden knowledge. They eventually came to the Amber Temple and started lurking there^[2].
