The elfshot, also referred to as the shadowreft, have had their shadow taken (and with it, their personality, skills, and much of their soul) taken by the Arak to be made into changelings, leaving behind a living husk that goes through the motions of their former selves' daily rituals largely oblivious to what is going on around them.^[1]Van Richten's Guide to the Shadow Fey p. 81-82</ref> The elfshot are both soulless and mindless (as in they have no Intelligence score).^[2] Unlike their changeling counterparts, the elfshot are still subject to normal aging.

Restoring an elfshot to a whole person again is very difficult if not impossible. Beyond the unlikely prospects of making a deal with the changeling's creator for the mortal's restoration^[3], nothing short of a resurrection cast on the changeling or a full wish will bring restore an elfshot to the person they once were^[2].
