The changeling race are humanoids with doppelganger ancestry. As such, changelings dwell secretly within the communities of other humanoid races. Clans of changelings are mere groups formed from allied or friendly changelings to protect and take care of each other, not clans in the traditional sense of blood relations.^[1]

Of their humanoid and doppelganger ancestors, changelings in their true forms resemble doppelgangers almost entirely, with only a few hints of their humanoid ancestors. Changelings inherit from their doppelganger ancestors a limited ability to shapechange, as if by a non-illusion disguise self.^[1]
