The spirits of Bluebeard's former wives do not rest easily, for they were murdered by his hand. They haunt Castle Bluebeard, and when he must return for rest, they dote over him and cavort all about the castle with him in hand. Like the rest of Bluebeard's subjects, they are utterly loyal to him, but their antics torment him to no end.[1]
