Bartley
Barley was a ship's captain from Port-a-Lucine who was down on his luck. He approached in desperation a Vistana for a fortune telling in the hope that she might find a spot of good luck for him. She promised him a bright future on the condition that a request that she would subsequently make be fulfilled. He agreed. Upon arriving in Ludendorf, the lumber that he was carrying proved to be worth an unimagined fortune for the town had been ravished by fire. He received a knock at his door one subsequent, foggy night and opened it to find the Vistana crone. She asked him to forever quit his ship and abandon the sea. He refused and was taken by the a storm that tore apart his ship but strangely spared the lives of all his crew.
The validity of the tale may be doubted however, as it was told by Captain Nathan Timothy who may have been seeking to justify his own bigotry in respect to the Vistani.
