Augustin von dem Meer

Augustin von dem Meer[1] was a Lamordian man driven to charter a sea route from the Sea of Sorrows to the Nocturnal Sea. Like Captain Pieter van Riese, his obsession drove his crew to their doom. Though instead of getting hit by a storm, the Pathfinder, Augustin's ship, was lost in the Mists. As supplies ran low, the crew became anxious. Augustin tried to cover up that his navigation equipment had gone haywire, but the crew eventually discovered his lies. He was locked up in a box originally for salted meat and left there to die.

Augustin clawed frantically at the box to try to escape, and by some fluke he was eventually successful. He fed his hunger with on board provisions, but he became so thirsty that he ambushed and killed one of the mutineers just to drink his blood. He killed another guarding the water provisions the following night and needlessly drank his blood. The pattern continued for all of his crewman save for Elias Archer, the only crewman whom had stood up for him against the mutineers. However, Captain Augustin found he too would die, stabbed by his own gold dagger, the weapon he had used to kill the other crewmen.

Augustin eventually rose again as an undead and found that he had to drink blood to survive. He does not mind this - in fact, he fully embraces his undead nature. He lures other unsuspecting dupes onto his ship, both to find that uncharted path and to feast on their blood.
