Artemis Donovan

A character from the Ravenloft Dominion novel Heaven's Bones, Artemis Donovan is a detective and a law enforcement officer in London. He also has the gift of the Sight by way of his Vistani heritage as part of Jaelle's Breed.

History

In 1867, Artemis investigated a murder of a prostitute and several disappearances of other women, but he was redirected by the police force to other cases before the Gentleman could be identified. In 1882, Artemis' dying mother, Fiona Donovan, told Artemis he must locate his outcast cousin Dirk Penhallow, and reconcile with him, or else everyone would die.

Later that year, Artemis received word from Janet that his friend and sometimes consultant Dr. Sophie Huxley was kidnapped by Dr. Sebastian Robarts, whom was the Gentleman from all those years ago. Riding in the carriage of Lady Cecelia Agnew driven by her servant Alex to Robarts' house in St. Agnes. Along the way they were intercepted by the Angels, biomechanical constructs of Robarts. Artemis was sent on ahead, and his Sight lead him to remember his mother's warning, to locate Dirk or else all will be lost. He found Dirk huddled inside a theater, and they achieved a level of rapport and mutual atonement. Together they encountered Trueblood, the mastermind behind all the troubles, and defeated them, though Dirk was mortally wounded. After the affair was over and the Angels stopped, Artemis and Dr. Huxley reunited after she escaped the Mists independently.
