Ardeal is the central county of Ustalav and contained the capital of Ustalav, the city of Ardis. When the prince and most of the nobles left this county for Caliphas, the district, especially Ardis, lost a good portion of its wealth and prestige. Many of the county's residences lie abandoned.[1]
Ardeal's borders constantly shift as its neighboring districts try to capture portions of its land. Varno and Ardeal came to blows in the War Without Rivals over a stretch of borderlands then known as the Dragosvet Plains. However, the war became so messy and heated it all but destroyed the Plains, rendering it a wasteland of trenches. That region is now called the Furrows. Like Varno, Ardeal is still bitter about the ending to their conflict. They are both still resentful of each other.[1]
