The Seduction of the Fey[1] is the event in the supposed history of Tepest that brought low the old, rigidly hierarchical Tepestani society of the axelords low. According to the tales told by bards, the fey tempted the cailleaigh- the wise women whom communed with the gods- with the mighty magic of the Weave. Those that succumbed to such temptation found themselves transformed] into hideous crones resembling witches or hags. With their corruption came their retreat into the surrounding forests. Thus the fey managed to throw creation from Summer into Autumn.

With the arrival of Autumn, the forests grew twisted, and the Children of Autumn- goblins, goblin beasts, and so on- began to appear. They began to attack the various axelord clans, even totally decimating a few. In the face of increased adversity, the clans clustered together in more tightly packed communities. With the dissolution of old rivalries and eventually the old order, Tepest became the rather classless society it is today.

The Seduction of the Fey is said to have occurred 20 generations- approximately 500 years ago (which, from 758 BC, would be 258 BC)
