The Children of the Gentlemen Caller were in-universe the half-fiend offspring of the incubus known as the Gentleman Caller. The Children were a metaplot element of the Ravenloft Gazetteers as the behind-the-scenes reason for Azalin sending "S" out to document her travels of all of the domains in the Demiplane of Dread.[1] As originally planned, each of the Gazetteers was going to a mention of a character hinted to be one of the Gentleman Caller's.[2] Due to the termination of the series, the Children's full natures and number were never revealed. A unifying characteristic of all the Children was that all their mothers were Vistani or at least bore Vistani heritage, to which the Gentleman Caller would have used to escape Ravenloft. Malocchio Aderre, the second Dukkar, is a child of the Gentleman Caller and Gabrielle Aderre[3] and perhaps the Gentleman Caller's most noteworthy offspring.

The Evil Eye, a 2nd Edition module, was the first source to bring up the possibility of the Gentleman Caller capturing Vistani women and forcing them to bear his children.[4] With the advent of 3rd Edition and the earliest development of the Gazetteers, the Kargatane (Real World) revisited the idea of the Gentleman Caller's children and imagined that a single Gentleman Caller would be hinted at for each of the thirteen Gazetteers.[2] Although the specifics of it were never finalized, the Kargatane imagined the Gentleman Caller gathering together his children as a means of breaking free of the Demiplane of Dread. Also in this setup, Azalin knew of this, and sought to use them for his own purposes. The Gentleman Caller and Azalin would have eventually come together to form a mutually beneficial scheme[5]

As imagined by the Kargatane, each child of the Gentleman Caller's children had their own special abilities, vices, and personal characteristics that reflected the personality and character flaws of their Vistani mother. Most were not distinctly deformed or inhuman save for a small deformity, as their fiendish natures were manifest in how evil they were on the inside. The Beast of the Hills is a notable exception, as she represents an inversion: inwardly beautiful and good but outwardly repulsive and monstrous.[2]
