The Familiar is the son of the Crimson Rose of carnival and a non-Vistani father. He was introduced into the skurra at birth. He performs a vanishing act through inexplicable means.[1]

The Kargatane planned to reveal in Ravenloft Gazetteer Volume XIII that the Familiar's father was the Gentleman Caller. [2] The potent magic of the skurra face paints, in addition to protecting the boy against the Twisting, also repress the growth of his demonic heritage.
