Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd"

Post by Undead Cabbage »

Ok guys, I think I'm dreaming.

A friend of mine just showed me that Tim Burton is making a movie adaptation of "Sweeney Todd", with Johnny Depp and Helen Bonham Carter as the leads.

...*twitch* OH MY GOODNESS!

Any body else psyched?

You're not dreaming. I saw the trailer when I went to Beowulf yesterday, and it looks very, very ... Tim Burton-esque.

You do know that Sondheim's musical (which this is a film version of) has been around for 28 years, don't you?

good lord that looks awesome.

Wish I could see it on the big screen. Not likely though. Maybe grandma wants to babysit for a few hours....

There's a DVD of the 1982 production with George Hearn and Angela Lansbury that's a good version of the original Broadway show (and makes you realize that Burton's cast is rather prettied-up by comparison!).

Judged purely as a movie, it was okay, though it took the usual Hollywood liberties with the legend. I probably would've given it more stars if I hadn't come out of the theater wondering less about the film's rather unorthodox spin on Beowulf's history, and more about what the heck that trailer for Cloverfield was all about...

I seem to remember Depp officially commenting that he does not have a good singing voice, despite his involvement in various bands as a guitarist.

Still this may just be more of his low-key persona at work.

^I think that might be the case, he's just being modest. Because he sure sounded good in the movie trailer . . . can't wait to see this one! :azalin:

I am very much looking forward to it, but then I'm a committed Burton afficiendo. (I must've seen the Corpse Bride three times when it came out....)

While I'm not juiced about seeing it, I am happy that there'll be a horror/suspense type film that I can see on Christmas Day! :D Sometimes, the holidays just overload you on cheeriness.

^Agreed. The christmas cinema fare this year really seems lousy, usually there's at least something worth seeing around the holidays, but from the previews, none of the Christmas films look very good at all.

BTW, interesting banner, but I was under the impression that this board did not allow personal banners . . . has that rule changed? :?:
