Shadowrun 4e anyone?

I've been a fan of Shadowrun for years now, and I'm getting ready to make the switch to the 4th edition rules finally. Has anyone played them? What did you guys think?

It really depends on when you want to play. If you want to play in current continuity, use 4th Ed, if you want to play in an earlier timeframe (like the elections of 2060(?) when Dunkelzahn stood), used 3rd Ed.

Well, the reason I ask is that one of my friends was complaining that in the new rules they made casters too "item-dependant." He felt that the current rules made it to where casters could never be as good as street samurai without spending a ton on foci, and I wanted to get other opinions on the system.

I say make the switch.
I personally don't run the game, but my GMs swear up and down how it is more streamlined.
I enjoy playing it as much as third, but am excited to see how everything pans out. It seems as though PCs are not as powerful as there 3rd Ed. counterparts, but I prefer low power gaming.

You may have hit on why that particular player has a problem with it. He prefers powergaming. Heck, he lives, eats, and breaths it.

Thats too bad, Powergaming may work for some peoples games, and I got the distinct impression that 4th ed. was catering to a more responsible gamer. I mean, anyone can lay waste to a corp with a suped up spell or whatever, but finesse is definatley something to appreciate. For example, my 3rd. ed. character is a human mob hitman who refuses to get any cyberwear. period. The only thing he has which is considered cyberwear is the cranial bomb his mob don placed in his head (some kind of trust issue I think). I mainly made this character to prove a point, you don't need to munchkin out to have a great shadowrunner. So far my character is at about a 19 karma pool, so he has been through a fair amount of crap.
While 3rd ed. it was possible for both gaming styles, at least in 4th ed. a fresh runner will actually seem like a fresh runner, and not a veteran.
