Vinny the P

Post by Kelliack »

All right Old School Horror film fans, it's time for you to choose which is your favorite Vincent Price horror film. I know it's a tough call, as there are so many, but that should lead to a great discussion.

My vote is a toss up between Theater of Blood and
The Abomidable Dr. Phibes

Plot wise they are pretty much, exactly the same, but each has it's own style. My final vote is Theater of Blood, for several reasons. First because all of the well done Shakespear references. Second because it's got Diana Rigg (Emma Peel) in drag. BTW both Price and Rigg hosted Mystery on PBS. Plenty of gore and blood. And I believe that it's Price's own wife whom he electrocutes in the Hair Salon (which dressed as Butch).

Honorable mention also goes to: The Conqueror Worm
Any of these is worth the time to watch. What else do we have?

The Raven (1963) with the first screen teaming of Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and Jack Nicholson.

This will sound really lame, but my favorite appearance of Vincent Price was when he hosted a Saturday morning kid's TV show when I was growing up. In 1971, he hosted an episode on 'Fear' on the ABC show "Curiosity Shop" where he showed that fear was natural and normal, and OK to feel and actually have fun with. Here's a picture from it: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/ghlong/c_shop.jpg
The same episode had a recitation of the Ray Bradbury poem "What's the Groon?"
Yeah, I was 11 years old at the time, but it impressed me a lot. I would probably cringe to see it now, I'd rather keep my fond memory intact.
I only wish I had retired sooner!

Oh man, you're killing me!!! Vinny is my favorite actor!! For real!!

If I could filter them down to 5 (IT DOESN'T GET ANY LOWER!!!) they would be:

1) Witchfinder General (INCERDIBLE PERFORMANCE)
2) Dr.Phibes Rises Again (Again he's better here than the original)
3) Theater of Blood (Just...Sensational)
4) Masque of Red Death (Oh, Prince Prospero, all of your dreams fade with your last dying breath...)
5) The Whales of August (surprised? Why, it's one of his best performances evah!)

We're waiting for others to participate!

I think so, Brain, but didn't we give up ritual murder for Lent?

Oh man, I thought that I was the only one to remember this show.
No one else that I've met has ever heard of it.

Vinny was great in it. Along with Billy Van, Billy Van, Billy Van and Billy Van

OMG!! You just reminded me a long forgotten love of mine!! Great performance, incredible book! If it wasn't for the true exploitation origins of the film, we would have a classic.

May I ask why? Problems with the content?

Just curious. What could anyone possibly write for Vinny that could get deleted?
