1-line Ravenloft reference in DRAGON #353

Post by Catman Jim »

In the March issue of Dragon Magazine, #353, there is an article on Demi-Planes. In a sidebar on page 39 titled "Other Demiplanes" is a listing for the "Demiplane of Dread: A horrific, mist-shrouded prison-plane, domain of the enigmatic Dark Powers."
Even though it doesn't specifically name it as 'Ravenloft', we all know what it is! Looks like we haven't completed vanished from Wizard's playlists.

OTOH, at least they made it very, very, very, very, very clear that that darned Demiplane of Imprisonment is a totally different ball of wax, er, crystal.

I got into RL just before WW dropped it. It's good to know that Wizards still acknowledges my favorite settings existence- if not by name. Better than nothing

You could do what I do and just don't acknowlege that Wizards exists. :)

Guys... if we feel triumphant that Dragon threw an one-liner to the setting without naming it we have lost the point. :) Just a thought.

I wouldn't have made any sense to call the Demiplane of Dread 'Ravenloft.' Within the context of the D&D universe Ravenloft is a castle in a remote and inaccessable demiplane, not the name of the Demiplane of Dread itself.

For that matter, from the POV of WotC's marketing division, Castle Ravenloft isn't even in an inaccessible demiplane anymore ... at least, not so long as they're still promoting EtCR as an adventure to be grafted into other game-settings.
