Dark Lord of the Sea of Sorrows

Post by The_Confessor »

So, I'm getting ready to start a RL campaign and I plan on opening the campaign with all the PCs on a ship on the Sea of Sorrows. In my materials, I found that Capt. Pietor Van Riese is the Dark Lord of the Sea of Sorrows - but I know nothing about his background or history. I was wondering if anyone could fill me in and let me know what his deal is.

Captain Pieter van Riese captains the ghost ship Relentless; he earned his darklordship after killing his crew and, finally, himself, in a vain attempt to find his world's equivalent of the Northwest Passage. (He's essentially a Captain Ahab figure, from the book Moby-Dick.) He's a 5th-magnitude ghost who can summon bowlyns to his aid; he's definitely a tough SOB.

Another useful tidbit--it is widely rumored that a ship sighting the Relentless will never reach harbor again.
