A halfling sits down (OOC5)
PARIDON CLOSING DOWN
For those who played the Paridon game (before I switched to take over halfling full time -well full time was the theory). The Paridon threads are being shut down and deleted.
For those who keep records of such things (some people do) you may wish to make copies of the thread/s before they are gone for good.

Believe it or not but I am planning on writing the adventure on a regular basis it's just the busy accounting season for us right now. That and I am waiting for responces by Wiccy and Cole. Expect to see the next part up in a few days to give them time to get back to me.

Sorry guys, but I am having to drop out of the game for the foreseeable future due to time constraints. If someone else can take over running Heinrich in my absence that's cool
If I get more free time, I will be back to pick up my character again, just that I really have no time these days
Blessings

Cole can't access the net currently, however I will continue the context thread and get it going again shortly.
Robert, did you get my message about background? I was waiting on that but we can get you in on the game regardless I suppose and get the background later.

I did, and sent two in response. Apparently, there was some error. So, I will summarize:
The basic definition of Robert Pembrooke's background is as follows: he is a devout priest, who was tasked by his superiors to deal with seemingly supernatural problems ranging from a cannibalistic madman to an Elder God, and many things in between. His unwavering faith in the ultimate power of God and His mercy has sustained him through horrors that would drive a lesser man into madness. His current greatest concern is his adopted daughter, Katrina; she is a powerful psychic, seldom interacts with the same reality everyone else is seeing, and her family is apparently involved in highly evil cult-type activities (these were, in some fashion not entirely clear to the good Father, responsible for the deaths of her grandparents, who had been her guardians).
I can type up a few pages of history, but most of that will change when he becomes a native of Paridon; the above is the important stuff.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

With all due respect to you as DM Coan. . . This requires a horror save not a fear check. Check the examples for Horror. This resembles the scene with the macabre marionettes made up from human parts. Also Kimuriel is alone in a hostile enviroment. . .Coan wrote: Three open casks that resemble beds lay against the wall. The third bed like structure is covered in blood and laying inside the closest casks are two men Kimuriel does not recognise. One man is hooked up to a variety of wires and metal tubing. Some of the tubes quite obviously insert into his skull and where they enter slowly bleeds clear sap-like fluid. His orange hair is shaved in patches for the hook ups and his chest rises and falls slowly as drool pools around his mouth.
On the other hand: Ixevim is greatly different in this respect. He is used to tentacles and wires getting in human's head and their brains getting out. Still the image of the tied men, the bloody coffins etc is horrifying.
I believe he has to make the check since he is reading Kimuriel's mind. What is the DC for Ixevim? What is the DC for Kimuriel? Make the check yourself for Ixevim (remember that his Will save is very high though
Problem:According to Mind flayers in 3.5 edition, Ixevim has to eat a brain about 1 every 2-3 weeks (Lords of Madness). While he isn't starving, he has to eat since Borca and what for you humans is a horrifying and appaling scene for Ixevim signs like "Dinner is served but a tentacled light eats your food". That's his insticts.
On the other hand. . . Ixevim has grown out of his mind flayer bearings (not a complete monster) and while his mouth drools in the image of the helpless man being brain-drained he believes he shouldn't eat the man.
All in all: That's complicated.

As for Ixevim's food, that is for the player to decide. But it is good you are giving it such thought. Let me know when Ixevim decides to eat.

1) Ixevim decides to eat the moment he gets the picture.
2) Van give me a break!
A very similar example is given in the book and it is considered horror save. Perhaps the tentacle thingy is a cause for a fear save but all the rest are horrific. (I have seen it somewhere, I remember the picture, but I'm not going to check it as a good player).
3) About the food thing: There are a few reasons that you have to make a madness check when you get into a Mind Flayer's thoughts. One of the is they need brains.

Delving into Ixevim's mind:
A few clarifications. Skip them if you don't care what happens within Ixevim's mind, what he believes it's happening and what really happens.
What he feels: Frustration, hate, anger, fear.
Frustration: The creature does what Ixevim wants to do but believes he shouldn't do. It comes to some part out of jealousy and part of self-loathing for having the same habbit.
Similar case in human mind: Taking heroin in front of a heroin addict that believes he should quit the drug.
Hate:That's a little complicated to explain. Except of the reasons described above and the fact that Ixevim cares for people so he doesn't like creatures killing people there is something deeper that overshadows everything else.
Mind flayers base their superiority partially in the fact that they subsist in grey matter. That means that this creature eating brains is direct threat to the mind flayers superiority. Everyone understanding mind flayers should now understand that mind flayers may not risk their lives for allies, may not risk their lives even for food. . . but they would fanatically pursue such things. A mind flayer would die first than accept that he is in some ways equal with such a creature (or any creature).
Either this creature dies or the mind flayer dies. A mind flayer would hunt it down if it escapes with the same feverish desire that the bioconstruct hunted Ixevim.
Another point is that mind flayers hunt brains. This creature seems to hunt brains too. Their interests come to conflict as they have to share the same resource and mind flayers are greedy by nature. Similar case in human mind: A disputed farm between two greedy families. A precious resource in the middle of the borders of two greedy countries.
NOTE: Not as strong feeling as it is for a large sum of money between two greedy humans.
Ixevim is a bit lighter on the superiority matter, he tries hard to see others as equals but he is still a mind flayer at the core. Also he is less hateful than other mind flayers. That doesn't mean he would let the creature go, but he wouldn't sacrifice both Artemis and Kimuriel to kill it. Rosette's life and just one of his allies' life on the other hand is a price Ixevim is willing to pay.
It may seem as criminal neglet to you, but that's Ixevim's ideals, don't think he is an emotionless, heartless monster. He likes you all, but now he is blinded by hate and by feelings of territoriality.
Note: He doesn't know he is willing to lose that much for this creature. In case Kimuriel is down bleeding and the creature is getting away he would take a moment to decide and then will hunt the creature, blaming himself for a monster for a looong time thereafter.
Anger: The creature rubs its insulting feeding patterns to Ixevim's face. Also it kills men just to feed. Ixevim is also getting hungry and the sight agitates him.
Fear: Ixevim doesn't know if he can kill the creature. Fear of failure is as much strong as fear for his own well being at the moment. Aslo Ixevim is afraid for Kimuriel's life and what the two people in the window may do.

I think we should talk about that! Not with you alhoon, with Ixevim!

I think someone should explain to Ixevim what means ally!

But why? Ixevim should be afraid only if Kimuriel delays him when he is hunting the creature!alhoon wrote:Fear:Aslo Ixevim is afraid for Kimuriel's life.
