Scariest Movie Moments

a few months back on BRAVO a week long special was aired looking at the "100 scariest " movie moments of all time from the perspective of film-makers and actors. i watched all week looking to see if the moments that terrified me as a kid would appear. needless to say i was disappointed in my search, but on the flip side i learned about alot of old films i had never seen.

i'm curious to know the images and moments that have affected the Frat community in your respective years (young or old) from film and television history. sharing can be cathartic.

personally 2 moments come to mind: the revelation of the animated corpse of Alice Krige emerging from the back of an old car at the end of the movie and the first portion of the "It" movie (the part told from the perspective of the children).

For me, it had to be in the original Jaws, "We're going to need a bigger boat".

Come to think of it, the only movie that has made me jump recently was 'Open Water'.

From when I was little: The fortune cookie scene from IT. Most of the movie scared me, but that one was the worst.

From more recent times: Audition. The scene where the guy comes out of the bag. I don't want to say anything else for those who haven't seen it, but . . . ugggh.

Also, the scene from The Ring where the girl crawls out of the screen scared the bajeezus out of me.

The scariest thing I can remember from when I was a kid was that movie "Pee Wee's Big Adventure". For those of you who don't remember the movie, it was directed by Tim Burton.
The movie featured two scenes that haunted me as a kid, one being a dream sequence where clowns (ugh, scarry enough) dressed like doctors and nurses take a bicycle into a warped hospital, then toss it to a bunch of devils who then roast the bike in the fires of hell.

The second (or should I say first, since it came before it in the movie) was in a truck. This creepy truck driver picks up the lead, and without even looking at him launches into a story about a horific crash. She goes into a line "And when they finaly pulled the drivers body from the burning wreckage, it looked... like this!" Then the movie launched some grotesque claymation face with some creepy laughter. Scared the begezzus out of me (keep in mind, I was 5 or something).

Ring 0 where the merged Sadako is stalking the last two survivors and is walking through the house with all the joints popping. Or the first Ring where Sadako crawls out of the tv, far better than how it was done in The Ring.

The Eye with the ghost in the evelator.

Nosferatu (1922) where you see Orlocks shadow climbing the stairs, it used to really creep me out.

Night of the Living Dead (1968) when you see the zombies massing outside the house.

Audition, the whole torture scen or the girl being savaged in Ichi the Killer (the bit where she has her foot cut off).

May, the final shot in that movie gets me every time.

Hellbound - Hellraiser 2, the part when the cenobites first appear when the girl is made to open the gate to hell.

Troll: I was only 9 or 10 when I first saw this movie, but the little bugger running around and transforming people into plant-like pods (which spawned evil ghoulies) really freaked me out at the time. It doesn't seem that scary in retrospect, but I didn't sleep well for weeks...

Hellraiser- Inferno: When the main character finds his wife and daughter frozen to death at home. The scene where they shatter was unnerving, and it really hit home that they wouldn't have died if he didn't neglect them for so long.

All time scariest moment in a movie was the "crawling out of the TV" bit on the Ring. To fully comprehend how terrifying this was, you have to understand that my little sister bears a disturbing resemblance to "evil Ring girl" (can't remember her name). That scene gave me the crawling heeby-jeebies, as does the afore-mentioned little sister every time she pulls her hair over her face.

Also Critters x, when I was young. One of the critters jumps into someones mouth and chews off their tongue. That freaked me out.

Plus, Nosferatu scares me every time.

American Werewolf in London.
Monster in a big city, people aren't safe even in train stations. Not to mention I shared a name with the protagonist. Didn't help that I was around 5...

It, the scene in the shower (where pennywise comes up through the drain)actually got to me really bad. For months after that I would take showers staring at the drain.

Not really a moment but several things in Ghostbusters 2 when I was young.

The whole floating head over a river of slime. When Vigo's henchman's eyes light up with that music and when he is the nanny flying towards Oscar the baby. The coming of the ghost train was well done as well.

In general that movie was quite scary for me, now I think its awesome.

All time scariest moment in a movie was the "crawling out of the TV" bit on the Ring. To fully comprehend how terrifying this was, you have to understand that my little sister bears a disturbing resemblance to "evil Ring girl" (can't remember her name).

You mean Samara, a very pale imitation of the truly terrifying and tragic Sadako. Sadako is far scarier when you learn that she was an innocent victim

LoL, when I first watched Ring, I had to unplug the tv, vcr, dvd player, everything! I couldn't sleep with them plugged in hahahaha.

Not really a moment but several things in Ghostbusters 2 when I was young.

Just do not mention the arrival of the Titanic, I find that to be in very bad taste whenever I watch the movie.

For me it was just about every death scene form Final Destination. The fact that they just came out of nowhere each time realy freaked me out.

PS: Don't watch FD2 though. It had some of the worst death scenes ever put into a hollywood movie.

my cinema eye is too immersed in the late20c/21c to be horrified by silent films. i've recently begun to watch them: Caligiari, the Golem, the Barrymore version of Jeckyll and Hyde and Metropolis and i find it difficult to place myself in the minds of cinema-goers during the early 20c.

I've recently scene Ichi the Killer. weak plot. my friends were shocked by the amount and the nature of violence and sexual depravity in this one. i STILL havent seen Audition.

As for Hellbound, i concur. when they came out of the wall my jaw dropped.
