Basically, WotC rolled over and took out almost everything the fans complained about.
Aaaand the fans are still angry. Because there's no way to make people stop complaining on the internet. There was really nothing WotC could do at this point.

WotC hasn't caved. They will still abolish OGL 1.0 for a far more draconian license.Jester of the FoS wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 10:07 pmBasically, WotC rolled over and took out almost everything the fans complained about.

This is incredibly wrong. First, OGL 1.0 says that you cannot even mention WotC IP.Jester of the FoS wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 9:25 pm
Like being able to cancel content for not meeting WotC's standards of decency. Which sounds problematic until you consider that people publishing offensive content as "D&D compatible" won't be seen as a 3PP by the media if it starts trending.
7. Use of Product Identity: You agree not to Use any Product Identity, including as an indication as to compatibility, except as expressly licensed in another, independent Agreement with the owner of each element of that Product Identity. You agree not to indicate compatibility or co-adaptability with any Trademark or Registered Trademark in conjunction with a work containing Open Game Content except as expressly licensed in another, independent Agreement with the owner of such Trademark or Registered Trademark. The use of any Product Identity in Open Game Content does not constitute a challenge to the ownership of that Product Identity. The owner of any Product Identity used in Open Game Content shall retain all rights, title and interest in and to that Product Identity.
Ah yes. The vital need to prevent Gary Gygax's "nazi son" from playing D&D. It's irrelevant to the discussion of the OGL anyway, since Star Frontiers New Genesis does not use the OGL.Jester of the FoS wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 9:25 pm And all the overtly horrible RPG products have have popped up over the years, like the unbelievably racist Star Frontiers reboot by nu-TSR or the OGL product Tournament of Rapists.
We know very little about the new license, as it doesn't exist yet. Saying it's "draconian" is probably a little early.tomokaicho wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 11:14 pmWotC hasn't caved. They will still abolish OGL 1.0 for a far more draconian license.
True, but Tournament of Racists was.tomokaicho wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 11:36 pmAh yes. The vital need to prevent Gary Gygax's "nazi son" from playing D&D. It's irrelevant to the discussion of the OGL anyway, since Star Frontiers New Genesis does not use the OGL.
Already saw that one! Love LegalEagle's work and it was nice to see Matt Colville on board. Thanks Jeremy16!Jeremy16 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 8:52 am Here's an interesting take from a famous Youtuber that I thought would be enlightening for all:

I'm not sure how you managed to cherry pick that selection. If you think that all is this agreement says, you'll lose your rights if agreeing to it.
It's in the OGL 1.1 license back provisions, that they claim that they will not have in OGL 2.0 (but you still won't be able to sue WotC if what they use is "coincidentally" similar).alhoon wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 9:43 amtomokaicho wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 8:45 amWotC gets an unlimited, perpetual and irrevocable right to your IP and you may not designate product identity. Where did you see that? Are you sure that's the right interpretation?
