Re: Birthright 2: Promises to Keep OOC
CHAPTER ENDED
BIG UPDATE AND INTERIM STUFF:
Shadow World party/Devlin's companions
Safana has returned the casket to Maeve, who vanishes in mist without a word.
Using Filbert's road travel (normal overland travel for any excess persons he couldn't bring) the PCs arrive back in Haes.
Safana and Devlin both fall ill from infected ghoul bites. (They recover afterward, with prayers and rites from the clergy)
The Archprelate isn't in the city when the party arrives, but has gone down to Avanil. He turns after getting word that the Duke needs him, but it takes several days.
Filbert and Gunnar have time to brave the Shadow World (after getting healed) and recover most of the rest of the ghouls' treasures Gunnar took as much as he could possibly carry on the first jaunt out).
Diviners and appraisers , their services arranged by the orders of the Duke (now issuing orders from an undisclosed location, sealed with his sigil-- which creates some rumors in the city...) determine that some of the treasures are the rightful property of certain families in Tournen and Alamie.
Devlin insists on returning these particular items to those families, which shrinks the hoard somewhat. He gains a +5 to his next diplomacy action in Alamie and a loyalty boost of one grade in his province of Tuor's Hold.
The most valuable item in the hoard is a full length coronation portrait of the last Emperor of Anuire, Michael Roele.
This is the only thing Devlin keeps for himself.
Just owning it boosts his prestige among rulers. It counts as one free and immediate upgrade for his court, with future costs to be paid for the additional security such a relic demands.
The rest of the treasure belongs to the heroes who reclaimed it. Much of it comes in the form of artwork and precious stones.
Ugo isn't getting a share of the treasure, but Devlin sees to it that the Halfling is given clean and comfortable quarters, several sets of decent clothing, a fancy set of cooking implements, and so on. Along with some pocket money and a position as a castle/palace cook.
Some of the scrolls turn out to be clerical in nature.
Father Michael takes those.
The rest are lesser magic or protection type scrolls. These spell scrolls will presumably go to Safana. Anyone might use the protection scrolls.
After all appraisal costs, magical identification costs, minor rewards to helpful NPCs, donation to the church, return of certain heirloom items to noble houses, and so on, division come out to several gold bars each for Gunnar, Safana, and Filbert.
Will post exact figure a bit later.
Safana may now be invited to upper class parties and possibly begin receiving offers of marriage.
Gunnar will be offered a knighthood.
ASSUME ONE WEEK HAS PASSED.
Use this stuff to set up your own opening scenes. Or, if your prefer, coordinate with me and I will set up a scene for you.
Devlin's quest is finished, his promise fulfilled.
He is busy now with politics, administration, his new marriage, and so on.

Rolling Roald's ancient history proficiency to see if he recognizes what "Blood of Light" means.

UPDATE FOR THE SEEKERS
All your PCs have heard stories about the Manslayer. He's one of the great villains of history, a powerful warrior and sorcerer, twisted by the blood of Azrai.
People say his little mountain valley realm is a graveyard of heroes and fools, because few who enter without his permission are ever seen again.
Tell me what your plans are for the next week or so.
Are you sticking together?
Are you working on a rescue operation?
Continuing to look for the missing girl, Gael (Foerde's ward, not the other girl you encountered, who is also missing...)?
Splitting the party?
Ending the quest?
Looking for backup/old friends/new allies?
Something else?

He doesn't know much about it, but he does recall that there are legends and travelers' tales of creatures like the ABOMINATIONS (awnsheghlien like The Manslayer, the Gorgon, the Spider, and various powerful and less infamous monsters that carry the taint of Azrai) but formed from the bloodlines of the other old gods. That is, formed from the power of the gods who died to stop Azrai from taking over Cerilia.Varrus the Ethical wrote:Rolling Roald's ancient history proficiency to see if he recognizes what "Blood of Light" means.

Re: Birthright 2: Promises to Keep OOC
MORE NOTES:
I have papers due for school, jury duty coming up, and most of all...
my baby arrives in early May!
Thus, I am now placing the game on hiatus.
I plan to resume sometime later in the year.
I will grant XP soon, make the rest of the notes on treasure, and so on.
The last thing I'm doing is a sort of epilogue thread.
That will go up tonight.
It should be used to show what your PCs are doing now that one quest has succeeded and the other has taken a surprising twist.
If you want to retire from play, switch characters, etc. this is the time to do it.
Alhoon has created a PC. He can use this coming thread to introduce that character, if he likes.
Tarlyn's original PC has rejoined play. He may follow up on her plans and actions with a post.
Sir Boarhort is an NPC, but may be available as a new PC, pending DM approval.

He'll need help with that task. He'll need to find someone with contacts among demihumans.VAN wrote:Gather info:[dice]209286:0[/dice]

Re: Birthright 2: Promises to Keep OOC
Cormac knows the story and can explain to the people present. There are rumors of creatures infused with the blood of the gods, sort of the counterpart to the AWNSHEGHLIEN, that are good and fabulous and mythical and have similarly altered forms to the tainted. The elf seems to indicate that her people think Foerde is one of these.
Cormac will want to find a way to mount a rescue to this tower she talked about.

"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."
