With the plus 4 for a backstab that's an effective 17 to hit. Add in the prayer bonus( yes, it applies) for an effective 18. Got any bonuses from other sources, like STR or weapon quality?Brock Marsh Runoff wrote:Using the surprise round to try and backstab Carilon.

Dorgio's Google file will not load on this 'puter.
Link may be broken?
In any case, looking at his fighter class and level to check THAC0, he just eked out a hit through/in spite of the field plate armor the wicked old duke wears.

Re: Birthright: Tuornen OOC
Van wrote that Filbert would backstab Carilon as well if he got a chance. This is it; he's highly unlikely to get the drop on the man twice. He may spring out and strike during the surprise round, flanking the duke.
Based on her IC and OOC posts, I will thus roll a backstab attack.
This + 4
[dice]0[/dice]
with prayer bonus= 13.
Given Filbert's THAC0, that does not penetrate the armor.
Guards are reacting-- but not before Safana and Cormac get their surprise round actions.

Cormac will put the weapon they gave him to use, helping some of the others with stabbing the guards. Not enough time to cast Shillelagh.

Re: Birthright: Tuornen OOC
Safana has targets in a group, in a fairly constricted area, but cannot plow through without burning Renn , Cormac, and Filbert. S he has to wiggle the sphere as it rolls, and pull up a bit short of the men nearest Carilon. No penalties to saving throws.
One guy makes it, one guy (clubbed by Cormac, escapes unharmed but warmed a lot), and the other four take full damage.

Silumtaneous!
I'll assume Cormac continues melee, as he's in the thick of it. Same for Filbert and Renn.
Safana will presumbaly direct the sphere to attack somebody without burning her friends. That's very tricky in the hall space, so I rule she may only attack a single guard with the sphere this round. Anything else risks burning her pals.
We know what Gunnar is doing.
Renn attack Duke wi broadsword
[dice]0[/dice]
Filbert attack Duke with shortsword
[dice]1[/dice]
Cormac attack a man-at-arms with chairleg/club
[dice]2[/dice]
Safana directs sphere at another guardsman
(guard needs a save)
Gunnar war sword attack on Duke Carilon's guard who moves in front to shield the Duke

Nope. He doesn't drop or lose his warsword.
VAN, I see you are online. Check that Filbert roll. If he would have done something else, let me know. No backstabs are possible this round, do to loss of surprise.
