Gunnar nurses his drink as he listens to the tale told by Cormac thinking that he needs to meet this "Huntsmen" fellow to see if he has any idea where the bandits hide out may be located at so they can be taken care of .

Roald nods to Filbert and turns around to keep a lookout without looking like he's keeping a lookout.

Devlin takes a deep breath and then delivers his commands. He'd always heard good things about Rennault from his father, but until this moment had little reason to personally interact with the man.Brock Marsh Runoff wrote:Rennault makes his way to the Duke, and gives a long bow when he sees Devlin. "Your Grace, Commander Tuare informed me of what happened last night. Please allow me to offer my condolences as well as my services. Whoever did this crime will be brought to Justice, but is there anything I can do for you personally, Your Grace?"
"Lieutanant Tuare heads up the investigation into my fathers asasination. I trust Firebrand will do the job well. I have commanded some close at hand guards to find me the toymaker Baub. I am curious as to why my fathers favorite servant flees the city on the day of his passing. I am loathe to suggest we treat him as a criminal, but I find the coincedence hard to accept. Make bringing him in a first priority. Secondly, with the situation as it is, my father -the late duke- murdered, and my investiture to take place this evening, I believe we should place the town on high alert. I'd like you to personally see to the security of the coronation. Add extra men on the street to help keep the peace. Third...I will need to have my personal men at arms doubled (1). My father trusted you, so in this task I place my trust; I will also require a captain of my personal guard, one that is loyal, trustworthy, and ready to lay down his life. Please find me such a man."
Devlin looks about the gardens and sighs.
"I've had enough of fresh air I believe. What I need now is a fine Nabhriene ale. Maybe a dozen of them."

''Indeed. If this pans out, and I expect we'll know that soon, all your debts are forgiven."
Atli leans forward.
''Hmm, maybe you really are a lady, after all, eh? Tell you what, Firehair, get into the new duke's good graces. I suspect there will be a need for loans to be taken soon, and I want my cut of the meat. Problem for me. I'm a dwarf and I live in this shit part of town, not even in-wall. You get me an invite to the palace. I know it'll take time. I'll advance you some money-"
He winces as he takes out a small sack of coins from a desk drawer and sets the pouch on his desktop.
"If your information is proved true, I'm about to be a little richer, and the news of a coronation will soon be proclaimed. The nobs don't like to wait long in a case like this, before claiming what’s coming to ‘em."
The bag of coins disappears expertly even before he has said another word. She listens to what he has to say.
"I can not promise you anything, but will do what I can to get you an invite with the Duke if it is at all possible. This will not be an easy task, and shall take some work. I shall work on it soon enough. Right now, I deserve some me time, Atli. Oh, another tidbit for you before I leave."
She leans in and whispers "Unsure if you were aware, but some smuggling will be going down this very night. Just thought you might be interested, friend." She mentions the general area and stands, turning her back on him before exiting the place and heading to the Inn with her noble outfits.

At the Toymaker's House-
Filbert wriggles halfway through the porthole and gets stuck.
The halfing's eyes are still adjusting to the gloom (as his body blocks the only open window) when the door at the rear of the shop room swings fully open to reveal a man with a lantern in one hand and a dagger in the other hand. The fat man raises the lantern; Filbert recognizes Baubb the toymkaer.
Baubb hisses- "Burglar boy!"
A nasty smile spreads over the toymaker's pudgy face as he draws near the stuck halfling.
"They sent the jester? Pathetic."
He steps forward with his dagger raised to kill...
Filbert is able to wriggle free, falling into the room-- but he gets nicked with the dagger as he tumbles from the window.
Roald, standing outside, realizes that something bad has happened...

The Auld Oak
After the locals have been satisfied with Cormac's tale and with a hasty but gentle questioning of the girl, Gillie Longacre, talk turns to the subject of a posse. The sheriff is away in the town of Benton, so either the people will have to wait a day for his return, or choose a leader to lead them tonight in a hunt for the birgands.
Brennan, the hearty innkeeper, argues for chasing the brigands immediately.
”The longer we wait, the more likely we never catch them. ”
Several others argue that it’s safer and wait out the night close to home and then send word to the sheriff in the morning.

Riverside, Dominica-
As she finishes changing into more courtly attire for the evening, Dominica hears a rapping at her door.
Over a sudden burst of excited voices in the street, she has a little trouble making out what the person on the other side of the door is saying...

Moving as quietly as she can, she tiptoes to the door. "Yes?" she replies loudly. Then she moves a little to the side, away from the front of the door.

Dominica recognizes the voice of one of the dwarf's lackeys-
"Your news proved true. Coronation is later tonight, at the cathedral of Haelyn. Atli says to come by in the morning to get your reward. "

"It is duly noted, friend dwarf. I'll be there tomorrow." Now off to see Fez later and see what he has for me.

Filbert cannot believe in his bad luck, he gets a step behind in order to dodge Baubb's attack and from his belt gets his 2 daggers and attacks.

...and finds himself staring into the lantern-bright golden eyes of a gigantic owl, so big that the thick tree limb on which it is perched sags beneath the press of its taloned feet. Less than twenty feet of brushy ground lie between the Huntsman and the feathered watcher. The huge predator bird looks as if it could carry off a lamb or a child with ease.
Looking at the gigantic owl the Huntsman releases his grip from his longsword. "We ain't easy pickins best you find someplace else to hunt." He says to enormous bird. Turning his horse around he continues the direction he was heading.

Seeing that Filbert is in trouble, Roald strings his hunting bow and aims it through the small window at the toymaker.
