Back to Basics Chapter 1: Where are we ?

[VAN]

"Ah the mists, well is really hard to explain them because I'm not an expert. They are like...ah...gods. They have starnge powers, like can take you to another place or even time. Mists use to just appear out of the sudden, for no apparent reason. They just raise and people that caught in them may have strange fate. Like transfered somewhere else as I said, or encounter strange monsters etc. This is how I got to the road I met all of you. I was riding my horse and was attacked by wolves. I shot them but they made a circle and I knew I have no chance so I forced my horce to jump over them and then run away. They followed me and my only chance to escape was hide in the mists. They weren't that thick when I entered but got thicker and thicker every step the horse made. When they cleared I was standing at the road where I found you all and according to Mr Ping we are many many miles away from my homeland Isidar."

Dalorna turns her head to face Sara

''Wait, so the mist moved you? And us?' You said that earlier, too, didn't you? I don't think I really understood at the time- it was all rather disorienting, suddenly appearing in unknown territory like that.''

She looks back to Ping and asks, an edge of nervousness creeping into her voice-



''You didn't get here the same way we did, did you? Lost in the fog?''

"Now, this is quite interesting. An anomaly in the guise of familiar and benign mists with god-like powers over space and time? Being a man who is learned in planar matters this, well needless to say could be quite a significant find back home. And Lady Sara, this is a common enough occurrence in your homelands?"

Dalorna turns to the dwarf-

''Isidar, do you think it's possible that a god or goddess might be controlling the fog? I can't recall if there are any gods known to send preternatural fogs, snatch people and movie them long distances, etc. Do you know anything about it? ''

[kintire]

Alia bows gracefully to the assorted applause and begins to dance, encouraging others to do the same

Arnulf gets up and dances with Alia and whomever else does.

[Roofdrak]

"No, Dalorna, I have never heard of any gods moving people from place to place by using a 'mist'. This is as much a mystery to me as it is to you." Turning to Sara, "Would people not avoid mists where you come from, Sara? It was very brave of you to race into the mists, though you were being chased by wolves. Do you know what causes the mists to move people through space? Are there people who are able to navigate their way through these mists?"

[VAN]

"Well I think almost everyone know the mists and what they can do. Obviously we avoid enter there since we have no idea what will happen and where we will find ourselves when they clear. But don't forget that the mist raise fast, sometimes you just find yourself engulfed in them. I have heard stories of people closing doors and windows of their houses and still the mists enter. Also isn't certain that will transfer you, maybe sometimes will just give cover or transfer 1 and let the other. I'm not an expert and I don't know if there are any rules on what they do and how they work. That's why I agree with most people of my land that are gods. The only race that can travel through mists without a problem are the vistani. They seem to control the mists someway and actually use them to travel fast from one place to another. I don't know how they do that and if actually the mists let them use them or the vistani are that powerful that are beyond mists powers. I entered the mists to avoid certain death. I did know that something may happen to me when entered there, as actually did...but to be honest I prefer to be here alive with all you than be dead and eaten by wolves...Maybe mists pick people and transfer them to a place for a reason not randomly. At least this is what I believe."

[Roofdrak]

"Interesting indeed. Mists moving people through space, possibly for a reason. I wonder if there are any of these people, you call the vistani, in this region. What kind of people are they to have such power as to control the mists, or at least know how to navigate them." She turns to Ping, "Have you heard of the vistani, Master Ping?"

If we could find these vistani and do them some favor, maybe they would help us find our way home.

Dalorna sits quietly, listening attentively to the conversation going on around her.

As more people get to dance and have good time at the party Alia has plenty of will dance partners to choose from . Some of the younger guys up to Sara and ask her to dance . Also a few of the little girls that Arnulf helped rescue intercept him on his way to the dance floor and ask for dances .

At the table:

Turning to those still at the table he responds to there question about the Vistani :"I have not dealt with them all that much as I usually try to avoid gypsies as much as possible for that is what they are . Only some of the people I traveled with long ago had dealings with them . As far as I can tell they are not to be trusted and have a reputation as conmen and thieves ."With that he turns to fill his own plate .

''Conmen and thieves, you say? Thanks for the warning, we will be on our guard around these 'gypsies' , then."

[steveflam]

Arnulf is as polite as he can be and shares his time with each young girl who asks him to dance. Once he is done he moves and sits back with his sister. "Wow, I don't think I've ever danced that much in my life, Lorna. And who'd a thought I was so popular?"

''Of course the girls like you- my little brother is cute as a button.''

[steveflam]

"Eww that's gross. I am not cute as a button. Plus why would a girl find me cute? Geez, why do girls find boys cute for that matter? Yuk." Arnulf gets up and gets another plate of food.
