Having read about the Shining Bay I am absolutely enthralled by it.

Almost makes me wish that Forlorn had managed to end up attached to it. As a sort of impenetrable ghost forest (that would steam Malus eh?)

Anyway, thank you for the suggestion, this is perfect. I'm actually going to suggest he be a Pardonian who went to work as an inventor of industrial labor devices for Malus in Nosos, ahead of his time and given vast resources till he had some sort or regret or was double crossed or something based on the type of person he wants to play.

It's all coming together thanks to the help of this board, thank you.

Also, if you want some extra inspiration material, here's my Paridon: The Dark Metropolis campaign, which came out heavily clockpunk.

Well said player is in thanks for the suggestions everyone. I am going to have to work a bit on Background as apparently he is thinking historically and now wants to be Arabic, sold as a slave and ending up in the Shining Bay. Probably escaping Nosos to make his way to freedom in Paridon (my idea). Though he could have escaped by sheer talent and usefulness if he does end up as a steampunkish inventor (not sure). Wondering if I can add a bit of an expansionistic element from the Shining Bay to the Burning Wastes... any thoughts?

And thanks again for helping me recruit a new player.

Don't make it an expansionist movement--make it a subversive one against Paridon. That is, have Shining Bay in irregular trade contact with Pharazia, which exports not just its good but its beliefs. That way, you get wide-eyed "prophets of Diamabel" living in tenements and street-preaching to the Paridoners, and can incorporate the Victorian-era fascination with (and fear of) Arabic culture into your campaign. Your player could easily have been the body servant of a diplomat who gained his freedom from some well-meaning Zherisian who was disgusted with the "savage ways of the Pharazians." That would leave his former master in-city as a possible threat (and adventure hook) and create a secondary antagonistic group (the Faithful of Diamabel) to add to occasional adventures.

In fact, I like that idea so much I'm going to incorporate it into my own upcoming Shining Bay campaign.
