What you thought of the hook: Having the Marquis turn up was a nice turn of events. The whole "Icon of Ezra" thing went bad and then good (for the moment) much faster than I expected. It was very "get a clue, proceed to X" at certain points, but that's almost unavoidable, so it's not worth worrying over.

...the pace: It was fine.

...the direction: Do we have a direction? Other than "do stuff for the Marquis"? I don't think we know enough yet to strike out on our own...not that we necessarily do much striking out on our own, anyway.

...the cutscenes: The newspaper articles are pretty boss. I like the production values, and it's a nice way of giving clues and communicating flavor.

And, if it is not clear already, I am having waaaaayyyy too much fun with Hazlan, the Isfahanis, etc. etc. :lucas:

...the surprising and/or shiny spectacles: I like the maps. :lucas: Cedolin turning up as he did was sad and scary; Poincare turning up as she did was a great "I TOTALLY SAW THIS COMING! kinda" moment. The first appearance of the Marquis was well played.

...the NPCs, their involvement and their characterizations (etc): I like Richard. He's cool.

Bastion Pineau is creepy. Actually, lots of people are creepy. The Marquis, Not-Cedolin, Poincare, all creepy.

Combat - 2 RT
What you thought of the pace of the first combat: Pace was fine; we didn't have any doldrums to speak of.

...of the difficulty: Fine. On the challenging side, but some fights are.

...of the tactics and strategies involved: It was kinda nifty to have us divided at the start, although that might work better in terms of balance in a fight where there's no solo monster involved, since solo monster tends to chew up whoever got isolated with him pretty good. The mirror-zone thing seemed to end up playing less of a part than I thought it would at combat start, not sure why. The "teleport someone into the hall and everybody shoots him" was pretty brutal as a tactic; I wouldn't go so far as to say "unfair", but it certainly was miserable to be the unfortunate guy whose number was called that way.

From a personal point of view it was pretty annoying to discover that my controller-ish abilities were mostly not that useful because...well, the turrets couldn't move anyway, so what did they care? But, again, sometimes fights are under conditions that aren't well adapted to one's abilities, and that's fine.

What you thought of the pace of the second combat: A little slow in the middle, but not too bad.

...of the difficulty: It was a pretty stiff challenge, especially considering that we had used dailies and action points; if the cultists had been willing to stand their ground it could have gotten pretty hairy. (FWIW, I am not fundamentally opposed to fights that are intended to be "too hard to handle" (the Empire attacking the base on Hoth), as long as we know that some fights will be like that and can get enough information to figure out which ones they are before our being ground to hamburger becomes inevitable.)

...of the tactics and strategies involved: Having to attack artillery across difficult terrain is no one's idea of a good time. It might have worked better to try to make them attack us, if they would have actually done that, but since they could just come into long range and then fired on us until we came forward, then retreated as we advanced...it was probably unavoidable. It was almost certainly a tactical mistake on my part to break ranks and zoom to the front, but given that we didn't know they were krazy long-range fighters and Darius' disposition, I guess those are just the breaks. And, again, no matter what we were faced crossing difficult terrain against artillery, so advancing together would have spread the misery out better but not necessarily lessened it overall.

General - 2 RT
What you enjoyed: Fighting. The investigation scene where C&D do their "weird twin communication" thing. The boatman almost scamming us out of 40 gold. Marquis weirdness.

What you want to see improved (and how): No recommendations at this time.

Any other comments: I do not want to rain on anyone's parade, but...I think we have a bit too much "silly fighting" going on. I mean, Celeste is Celeste, bless her oblivious cotton socks, and that's fine, but then we have Agale using the "long psionic arm of the law" and Cerise doing...whatever Cerise does, and it gets to be a bit much, to my mind. YMMV! I dunno! And I don't want to spoil the fun, so if y'all are having a good time with it I will just play along.

I think the law is a fine psychic focus, personally. The guy channels his mind through enforcing legal truths as universal ones.

I'll admit Agale's attacks have been getting more ridiculous as of late. I'd intended for them to be more subtle, but when I'm tired and trying to hammer out a combat post before time is up, they tend to wander more into Phoenix Wright territory (Still haven't had an opportunity to use Intellect fortress, I have a good one lined up for that, if a bit cheesy).

I'll try to put up my feedback tonight.

Thank you, DMs, for giving my ridiculous figurative conceits an unwarranted basis in reality. That was awesome. :)

And with leveling going on, it is time for Rock's standard begging post (tm)!

In all seriousness, I think we could benefit from acquiring the Phantom Steed ritual, in case we get into another bout of 'having to be somewhere else in a hurry and we can't play Grand Theft Carriage'. I have 411 gp left after my shopping spree, purchasing and scribing this ritual would require 309 gp more. Who'd be willing to make a donation?

I can't lend you much, but if I have any left Nicholas could drop some gold your way.

If we cant afford it I can buy up Travellers Chant as a not-as-good alternative.

Are we allowed retrainingwhen we level BTW DM's ?

You are allowed retraining, but you can only retrain a single option (power, feat, skill, so on).

Things which you purchase for money are not up for retraining (so you're stuck with your current rituals and items).

There will also be a general character rebuild after Book 3 or Book 4, if you're severely unhappy with your PCs at that point.

Alright! Let's move to wrap up the interludes. I believe everyone is done, or just about, so make any last comments and with luck we'll begin Book Three some time tomorrow!

Hurray cutscenes. As for RP, apologies all round. I told Isa how I forgot to inform the group about the New Albion convention last weekend. Now I'm in the throes of midterms with my left wrist in RSI mode (means it hurts to type, a lot). I will be busy Sat probably, Sun definitely. Spring break Monday. Please don't forget about side rp, I haven't!

Story & Plot - 2 RT
What you thought of the hook: It was nice to have some kind of clear direction, a good improvement. The Marquis intervention was a good touch, made what we were doing more real.

...the pace: This chapter also went really long, I think. It probably would've been better split up since it really had two climaxes and felt like two plots. One when we discovered the truth of the Archeron and one when we dealt with Poincare. Also I have a feeling I'm really missing something with Poincare, like she's supposed to have some major significance I just don't get.

...the direction: Not really sure what you're looking for here. I guess it seems fine? I'm not really quite sure where we are going, I guess.

...the cutscenes: I like the newspaper articles and I really dig Nathan's cutscene writing >)

...the surprising and/or shiny spectacles: I totally saw the bit with Cedolin coming as soon as it was announced that he vanished :P Some of us have played that game before.

...the NPCs, their involvement and their characterizations (etc): Cerise is freaking crazy but really fun. The Marquis is a creep extraordinaire. I'm also glad there was less NPC involvement and that the involvement dropped off toward the end of the chapter. They're good additions and support, but I am glad the story got more PC-centric.

Combat - 2 RT
What you thought of the pace of the first combat: Pace was fine, I suppose. I am not sure what to say. I mean, all the combats move pretty steadily.

...of the difficulty: Challenging but I suppose that's the norm.

...of the tactics and strategies involved: The glowy purple zone thing was an interesting touch, if confusing at first. I agree with Nathan, though, the teleport-into-hall-and-mangle was a pretty nasty thing.

I still say it would've been useful to have a much simpler, more straightforward fight first so people could get a handle on what their characters are capable of. Even I'm kind of new to the player side of 4e.

What you thought of the pace of the second combat: Again, not really sure what to say.

...of the difficulty: Overall it wasn't too bad but there were some frustrations. See below.

...of the tactics and strategies involved: The terrain issue and constant slowing effects was utterly frustrating as a melee character. Once I got to an enemy, it wasn't so bad. But man, it was annoying getting that far.

General - 2 RT
What you enjoyed: Fighting, the twin-telepathy, especially how much it creeped Nerit out. The twin arguments. It's quite fun. Also the Marquis's appearances were great.

What you want to see improved (and how): Nothing right now.

Any other comments: Also nothing.

Oh, come on, the two of us circling you like a pair of sharks didn't creep Nerit out even a tiny bit? ;)

And Book Three is up! Moderators, if you would be so kind as to close the interlude?

Also, I heartily recommend anyone who has not as of yet done so to check the Cutscene thread, we've quite a haul recently. :D
