Alain scrambles to keep up with the interview of the the children, his quill pen flying through parchment. Everything sounds pretty straight forward so far...

Orphanage, in the workshop with the children

Orren answers,

''The bad boys, they grabbed our friends and held their mouths shut. I tried to help Cora, but one of the bad ones grabbed my arm and twisted it, and he knocked me down. Then they took Cora and Hamnet and Willem out the window.''

Orren holds up his skinny arm, and sure enough, he's got a nasty looking bruise that looks rather like a small handprint.

Little Emma, in between sobs, cannot manage much more than ''they took them'' and ''I'm scared.''

orphanage, in the ground floor hall

Jamethon responds the gnome-

''Very good, Threan. Alain will be happy to hear that you've got something for us. And I agree, bringing in your brother is a good idea. Inovidil would be a big help as well, I suspect. ''

Blaise puts a consoling hand on Emma. "Don't worry, Emma. We'll find them. And we'll work with Miss Yorna here to make sure that you, ALL of you," he says to the gathered children, "will be safe.

"And you, Orren, that was quite brave of you." He removes his militia badge and gives it to the boy. "Why don't you hold on to this for me for a while? But promise me that if you ever see anything like the bad boys again, you'll run and tell the nearest grown-up right away, yes? Now, do you mind if I take a closer look at your arm...?"

OOC: Blaise wants to see whether it's a bruise caused by force (like an extremely strong grip) or if it's a mark as though burned onto the skin by touch.

orphanage , workshop

The children begin to calm down after Blaise reassures them of their safety.

Orren takes the badge and shows Blaise his right arm. The bruise looks like a strong grip caused it, not like any sort of burn.

orphanage, hallway

While Jamethon and the gnome converse, a red haired woman [not Shana] in black robes and carrying a scythe [ ] enters the building. Close behind her comes a young militiman in his green jacket. The militiaman recognizes Jamethon and says-

''Sergeant, this is a new recruit. I'm to report to Lieutenant Gusichard...where is he?''

Jamethon points out the door to the workshop, and the young man trots off to talk with Alain.

Jamethon now turns to face the strange redhead.

''New recruit, huh? Why are you carrying a scythe?''

"Yes I am a new recruit. A scythe you ask? It is the weapon of choice of my deity, Myrkul and thus I use it. Just as others favor a sword or bow, I prefer the scythe. I guess I should introduce meself. Me name is Breana, Breana Carter. Well met."

Jamethon asks,

'' Myrkul, isn't he the god of the dead?''

in the hall

Jamethon answers-

''No, your religious preferences, morbid as they may be, don't bother me overmuch.
As for what happened here, it appears to have been a kidnapping. Three young children are missing. ''

in the workshop-

The young militiaman knocks lightly at the door, then enters, softly closing the door behind him. He strides over to Alain and hand-delivers a slim message pouch of yellow leather.

''This is from Watch-Captain Rask, sir, for you.''

He goes smartly to the position of attention and awaits Alain's orders.

Blaise stands up and gently rubs the boy's head. "You'll be fine, all of you. Thanks for the information, and we'll do our best to make sure the bad boys don't trouble you again."

He turns to Alain. "Anything else you can think of, my friend?"

Alain stows away the packet under his arm for now, dismissing the militiaman who gave it to him. Then, looking down at his notes he answers Blaise, "I think we are done with questioning for now."

He then turns to the new recruit and gives her a welcoming smile. "Hello, Ms. Carter. I am Alain Guischard...er, I suppose Lieutenant is in order." He awkwardly holds out his hand to give a proper greeting.
"So, you have joined the militia and are now here to help us with this particularly troubling case. Welcome aboard. Any volunteers willing to show Ms. Carter the scene of the crime?"

orphanage, downstairs

''I'll take her, sir.''

Jamethon motions for Breana to follow him to the stairs.

''It's an upstairs room facing the street. This way...’’

*******

Morningmist Hall

Shana is busy interviewing priests and acolytes, trying to get a better sense of what happened, and trying to collect all any available information on her chief suspect: alias Narisa Jihb.

One of the clerics who'd been assigned to work with the investigators now approaches Ironheart. The red-robed man asks,

''Is there anything we can do to help you, besides just answering questions?''

*******

Glimzine and Invodil arrive, after a pleasant walk, in the great hall of the Drowning Flagon. The main floor is mostly taken up by a large ballroom and adjacent tavern area, and is already pretty lively even this time of day. Barmaids scurry about, refilling tall mugs of ale, beer, and wine. Men and women pair off to dance as musicians play a lively tune on yartings, bandores, and pipes.
The noise is enough that Glim has to raise his voice a little to be clearly heard and understood by Ino-

''Well, this is the first floor party. Later, as it gets too crowded, a lot of people will climb to the second floor, where there are more ballrooms, bars, etc. Half the people in the city come here- the half with money. We'd better start to ask around for the illusionist.''
