Re: Mist Usage

One game I was in, I was playing a character who's memory was missing for a large chunk of his life. He knew he did something to get himself killed, but he didn't remember anything. The party even decided to go to the village he was from, and that didn't help. Though he did learn his last name. Afte...

Re: Evil player characters in Ravenloft: A Dissenting View

"Antagonizing the paladin" is something I do as a player when I'm using a good or neutral character. And often to comedic effect. On point, however... I've always found it depressing that DM's don't allow evil alignments more often, because there's a range of how to play "evil" c...

Well... I can leave, but I'm a fool, so I don't.

Equipment Cultural Levels...

In a fit of madness, I recently asked my local gaming group what sort of game they wanted to play. One of the players suggested a game where they could play evil characters, and the wheels in my head started to smoke from spinning so fast with ideas. But when I was putting together my plans, I opted...

The fool lives...

Tadelin pulls himself out of a long-since filled grave, and brushes dirt from his cloak and clothes. He also checks to make sure all of his belongings are intact. "Good. Nothing missing. Now to find out where I left those other fools..." Yes, I live. For no apparent reason that I can figu...

Slowly rolling out from the mists...

...is a small wagon, being pulled along the road by two draft horses. Sitting on the bench is an elderly man, perhaps well beyond his sixtieth year, softly talking to the horses and to someone else who is not readily visible. This person may be in the back of the wagon, but again they would not be ...

I don't want this to become a touchy subject, so I add the disclaimer that this is opinion! And I realize it as such. Quite understood. I've always viewed Ravenloft as a setting where damnation was inevitable, and the struggle for redemption was not meant for everyone to be successful with while un...

Just a DC 20 isn't unreasonable. It's the DC20 Fort AND Will save that would screw you over. Most classes are weak to one or the other, so you have a MUCH higher chance of failure than with just one DC20 save. It's supposed to be "Blowing up the Death Star" difficult, not "needle in ...

Origins of the character...

I've been floating around the internet with this screen name long enough, I think it's finally time I dusted off the history behind the character. I was hoping to know ahead of time when the netbook for Paridon/Zherisia was going to be put together so I could have done it then, but as life really di...

To lose your character every time they get cut by a lycanthrope? No. That recovery and redemption should be so difficult that one may think it impossible. DC 20 is still possible unless the total modifiers are so against you that the number is negative. But it should never be easy in Ravenloft. Out...

This is Ravenloft, and as such, that's kind of the point. :)

Oh, and sorry about the thread hijack, guys. Not a problem. I'm just glad to see that there is a reason you were so quick to jump on me. It just didn't seem like you. Rotipher, I'll pass along those responses. I've not read all of the Gaz's yet, so I wasn't able to quickly pick up on all of that. I...

Brandi, please tell me that someone has hacked your account here. In all the time that I've been coming here and to SotK, I've never seen you give such a childish response to anyone's post.

A second-hand question from a DM...

I was playing in a new group tonight, and the game of choice was Ravenloft. Something cooked up by this group's DM. At one point, while the other players were getting things organized for their characters (since no one other than myself and the DM were at all familiar with Ravenloft), we were discus...
