The wight is a type of corporeal undead creature that resemble dark, undead mockeries of their living counterparts with dried skin just barely stretched over bone. Wights are violent and malevolent creatures that generally wish the destruction of life near their lairs and replace it with their own spawn. Such lairs often are graveyards or other burial grounds. The punch of a wight inflicts energy drain, and a wight may create spawn by draining the life of living humanoid creatures.[1]
According to Van Richten's Guide to the Walking Dead (Item), wights commonly arise out of circumstances imbued by negative emotion, mostly commonly the wight's own personal emotions (such as miserly attachments to one's possessions or even simple hatred) it had in life that becoming a Craving in death. More rarely, wights may rise from the grave when buried in areas warped by ethereal resonance imbued with negative emotions. Wights have been classified as the Restless Dead subgroup of the Walking Dead.[2]
There are several kinds of variant wights, including bladewights[3], dread wights (and greater dread wights)[4][5], Necropolitan Wight[6], and slaughter wights.[7]
