Descriptive Text
XXVIII. The Tree of the Hydra
In a place, deep below
the lightning-wracked skies,
there is a vast cavern.
In the cavern,
grows a tree
that sings.
The tree is
crystal,
branching,
branching.
In the branches,
in the leaves,
dance visions,
near and far,
was and will be.
Beneath the tree,
pinned by roots,
sleeps the Hydra.
The Hydra,
the mad worm,
with its head
of lashing whips.
Crystal roots
grow through
its hide.
The Hydra sleeps
and dreams,
one day
to awaken
and rise
and consume
the world.
