The Pipe of Mordent was created in 734 BC by the bard Stewart in Mordent. Among its components was human skin. It may been commissioned by the Gentleman Caller. In any case, the first use to which it was put by its commissioner was the slaying of Stewart. The device ended up in the Black Vault.

Powers

The Pipe of Mordent may be used to effect a number of spell like effects, requiring the pipes to be played for a number of rounds equal to the charges that spell like effect expends. The Pipe holds a maximum of 30 charges, which it only repairs by energy draining those near the piper when all charges are expended.

Songs

Legend affords the Pipe a number of special songs that can be played on it.

  • The Dance Macabre may be played on the Pipe of Mordent to raise an army from the dead but at the cost of the life of the piper.
  • The Maddening Melody may be played on the Pipe of Mordent to provoke beserker rage in the listener.
  • The Symphony of Souls may be played on the Pipe of Mordent to consume the living spirit. Played backwards, the song may summon the maddened spirits of past victims and unmake the device.
