In their classification of Mist Creatures discussed in Van Richten's Guide to the Mists (Item), the Weathermay-Foxgrove sisters call creats "adopted" but not born of the Mists the Fugued. Such creatures are thought to be cursed wanderers, doomed to travel from place to place doing the bidding of the Mists wittingly or not. Gennifer Weathermay-Foxgrove speculates each of the Fugued is driven by a specific Craving that drives the Fugue's existence.[1] Such speculation is correct, in that a Will Save is required not to fulfill its Craving when confronted with the item in question, allowing the Fugued to delay fulfilling the Craving for a single hour.[2]
The Fugued are subject to alteration, perhaps even transformation, by the Mists.[3] The Fugued gain the the Mists Subtype as well as several common psychological vulnerabilities: fire (either repulsed or drawn toward it), reflections such as mirrors (repulsed), and sunlight (disorientation causing penalties to attack rolls, saving throws, and skill checks.)[4] The Fugued may manifest any from an endless variety of salient abilities[5] and weaknesses. See Mist Creature Salient Ability and Mist Creature Salient Weakness for details.
Although Laurie Weathermay-Foxgrove thinks that the Fugued do not seem to any more wicked or depraved compared to other beings in the Land of Mists[6], Dr. Alexander Penarrow believes each of the Fugued has done or become something to "deserve" their fate, whether that be a child disobeying parents or a creature consumed with obsession.[3]
