Talk:Desperation's Road

From a post I made on Cafe de Nuit:

* There were several sidebars with interviews and secrets that got cut. Several of these appeared in the Gaz 1 web enhancement on the our (the Kargatane's) old site. These included information on the origins of goblyns, the story of Desperation's Road, and a couple others.

This potential-canon (?) is the basic of this article. --ChrisNichols 21:47, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Ron is the expert on this, but for my money material cut for space is (lost) canon.Cure 01:49, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

No, it's Potential Canon, IMHO. Falls under "information directly from the creators regarding what they intended to include in the products but never did," I agree with you, cure, that in my mind, this is completely canon. But it was never published, regardless of the reason (space, cancellation of the line, etc.). There are some folks who wouldn't consider it canon, I'm sure. But more importantly, if (Ezra-willing) new Ravenloft products were ever to come out, it's highly unlikely that the new authors would know about these "lost" items. I would assume they'd have no qualms about accidentally contradicting them if need be. The same is not true of what actually made it into the books. I don't think we can presume that future authors, if they exist, will read Mistipedia. -- Gonzoron 14:26, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Potential Canon it is then. Although as to the future author's argument, given that past authors have ignored known errata (the "mistway out of Barovia" that isn't) and not bothered with existing material (at least thoroughly enough) such as concerning Ivana's brother, or have decided that a reboot is convenient to them and/or the marketers (Expedition to Castle Ravenloft), it would seem that there is a lack of qualms generally about what has come before or at least willingnessly to be bothered to read it. Maybe the Mistipedia should be required reading for them.  ;-) Cure 14:58, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Well, to be fair, it is a vast amount of canon at this point, and it's tough to find such details. Ideally, as Mistipedia becomes more complete, it would be the first time all such details could be found in one place. So, yes, I agree, it should be. But we can't count on it. :) -- Gonzoron 16:13, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
