The Seneschal of the Darkest Tower is the personal servant of the Herald of Night. However, serving the Herald of Night is an invariably fatal task.^[1]

The Confessors usually select each successive Seneschal of the Darkest Tower from among the children of the poorer districts of Phiraz. The Seneschal's family is well paid, and the Seneschal lives in luxury until the Herald loses his temper.^[1]

Although the Seneschal of the Gleaming Hall attempts to look after the Seneschal of the Darkest Tower, there is nothing he can do to avert the inevitable wrath of the Herald of Night.^[1]
