Piriyaganj is a village in Sri Raji located due north of Muladi. It has approximately 800 inhabitants, many of whom are descendents of the Piriya tribe who found life in Muladi too constraining. The remainder belonged to other tribes or are outcasts from Muladi. The tradition in Piriyaganj is that anyone who contributes to the village is welcome there.[1]
The people of Piriyaganj engage in typical village activities such as raising livestock, cultivating rice, and producing craft goods. However, the economic backbone of the village is the growth of bhang and opium. These crops were introduced by criminals from Muladi, but they have proven so profitable than many of those who were initially skeptical have been convinced of the necessity. Even so, two factions have arisen in the village: those who value stability over wealth, and those who value wealth over stability.[2]
