In the I6: Ravenloft 3rd Edition reboot, Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, the necromantic infection is a supernatural disease that was created by Strahd as an experiment in animating zombies as a mass contagion upon the Village of Barovia. It creates Infected Strahd Zombies and is spread by the zombies it creates.[1]
