Melesku'ta

A former military research center built by the Thaan upon the northeastern slope of Mount Grysl. When Bluetspur was captured by the Mists, the building was drawn along with the land, but none of the occupants were.[1]

Several years afterward, a squad of Yldi'Thaan rediscovered Melesku'ta with its store of half-complete weapons and defenses. The defense closest to completion was something which the squad dubbed the not-here field, designed to prevent psionic creatures (such as their illithid enemies) from even noticing Melesku'ta and whatever else was contained within the field. The squad was able to follow the research notes to finish the development, but they knew that one of their own would have to integrate with the psitech in order to control the not-here field. A soldier named Xhafer was randomly selected to remain.[1][2]

However, only after Xhafer activated the not-here field did he learn that all psychics within the field were rendered completely insensate. While Xhafer adjusted to his new existence within the psitech, his incapacitated squadmates died of thirst.[2]

A century and a half later, Xhafer remains the intellect controlling the not-here field and all of Melesku'ta.[3]
