Marina is the first reincarnation of Tatyana Federovna.[1] She lived in Berez, in the home of Burgomaster Lazlo, who she called "Papa Lazlo".[2] Marina was an amnesiac person, found wandering the Luna River by some of Lazlo's men. Taken to Brother Grigor and so named by him, Marina became Lazlo's adopted daughter.[1] However, Lazlo treated her with callous disregard, according to Strahd.[3] Lazlo planned to get the adoption license rescinded and become married to his former daughter.[4]
In 400 BC, Strahd met Marina when he purchased some books from Lazlo in the guise of Vasili Von Holtz.[5] He surreptitiously set about wooing her and transforming her into a vampire. However, his work was detected by Brother Grigor, who informed Lazlo.[6] Lazlo staked her before Strahd could complete the process of transforming her.[7] In a final act of spite against Strahd, the Mists abducted her staked body before Strahd could get to it.[8]
