King Azale

King Azale is one of the Loa of Raba, in the Wartorn Cluster, specifically one of the Loa ap Mache; a tribe of Loa that did not appear until after the Great Invasion.

King Azale is the archetypical rich merchant, a Loa who has attained power and wealth through clever deals and sly contracts, and bought his way onto a throne. Acknowledged as the chief of the Loa ap Mache, he must be invoked every time one of the other members of his tribe is called upon, as he 'guards the door' onto their realm. He is not widely popular, but the wealthy and powerful elite who uphold him as an example tend to spend lavishly on his rituals and worship to curry favour with him.

When King Azale appears, he is never alone, but always in the company of either another Loa or a Spirit of some different kind. His most frequent companion is Muzawar Flatteur, his personal scribe and accountant, who will register the worship the King has received when he is called upon, and may present a bill to those who seek to access other Loa through him.

Appearance

King Azale appears as a tall, stern-faced man in robes of simple cut, but expensive material. A crown of polished iron sits upon his brow. He is depicted with one hand extended in front of him, either beckoning the observer or pointing at them in admonition, and the other hand hidden behind his back; the hidden hand is holding his bulging money-pouch. At King Azale's belt hang the keys to the domains of his fellow Loa ap Mache, through which mortals must pass if they wish to speak with his subordinates.

Inspiration

Unsurprisingly, King Azale appears to be based on Azalin.
