The Hymn of Life was a magic stone of legend in Hunadora Province, the outlander homeland of Nharov Gundar. Purported to hold the capability of restoring life to the dead, the Hymn became the object of Gundar's quest to cure his vampirism and regain his lost humanity.

One day, fleeing from the enemy, Gundar and his subordinate soldiers stumbled upon a strange vibrating marble pillar that reeked of planar magic. Gundar interpreted this pillar to be the Hymn of Life he sought and insisted one of the mages in his command activate it, much to the distress of his men. Under pressure of further punishment from Gundar if he faltered in activating the magic of the pillar further, the battered mage hastily scrambled to do so. However, the magic did not restore Gundar to life but instead merely gave him back his long lost human emotions. In addition, Gundar was transported along with a fraction his men- the rest had met an unknown fate- into the Demiplane of Dread.[1]
