Havernus is a harvest god that was venerated as the dominant faith in the Material Plane kingdom of King Gregor Ravinia. As a celebration of Havernus' blessings of the crops that made the kingdom among the most prosperous in all the land, King Gregor held annual festivals. During these festivals King Gregor would give sacrifice to Havernus. This sacrifice took the form of a large amount of gold spent to deliver gifts to the realm's populace, often taking up ten percent of the annual earnings for the kingdom. Yet King Gregor grew to resent this sacrifice, gradually shrinking the expenditures to give gradually less and less over time until no gifts were given. Although the public failed to notice, Havernus did not. He began to blight the crops to make each harvest yield less and less. Yet King Gregor's greed had grown so successive he could not relinquish his hold upon the royal treasuries. Eventually he found a replacement for Havernus' blessings in the Shard of Darkness by making blood sacrifice, though this also came with the additional cost of further corruption[1].
