Geoffrey Graef was the brave young son of Lord Durven Graef. A truly patriotic subject of the kingdom of Nerath, Geoffrey jumped at the call to defend the kingdom against invading demons. However, his father shared not his sentiments, which ultimately led to a series of events culminating with Geoffrey's death and rebirth as the Ghost of Graefmotte[1]

Background

The formation of Graefmotte occurred in the context of the demon invasion that felled Nerath in the Points of Light implied setting for 4th Edition. Lord Durven Graef, the future darklord of Graefmotte the domain, was a noble lord of a stretch of Nerath's frontier. Graefmotte's cowardice made him disloyal to the crown, forbidding his son, Geoffrey Graef, to leave for war against the gnolls. Repeated arguments eventually escalated to physical fisticuffs, ending with the felling of Geoffrey. Lord Durven allowed his son to bleed out rather than lose him on the battlefield. Still driven mad by the experience, Darven's neglect let gnoll invaders break in and overwhelm the Village of Graefmotte. When Darven gathered his forces, the gnolls were driven away, but he was mortally wounded. the Mists came in and took Darven Graef and his people to the Shadowfell.[2]

Following the domains transfer to the Shadowfell, Geoffrey's corpse disappeared, and the Ghost of Graefmotte began to haunt the land.[3]

Current Sketch

The Ghost of Graefmotte forces the living to experience its last moments. Its presence draws other rest undead remnants of those whom died in the gnoll attack.[3]
