The Emherst School of Living Theater is located in the village of Emherst. Specifically, under it ... in an area referred to as the Understage.
One week out of every eight is given to an uninterrupted, week-long performance that occurs in the village above. Actors will generally refuse to break character during a performance and will improvise and adapt their role to account to the presence of an outsider.
Competitions for prime roles within the theater can be ruthless, and have led to tragedy.
